eWIT was proud to host the “ eWIT Excellence Award - 2008 ”, a Paper Presentation Contest that was inaugurated this year, to unleash the potential of IT/ITES woman professionals to showcase their talent and expertise in their respective areas, and this opportunity was extended to woman students too.

Candidates from over 60 organizations and colleges had sent in their papers from which the eminent panelists had brainstormed and selected 6 papers each in Technology and Human Resource categories, 7 papers in Quality category and 8 papers in Student category.

The final paper presentation, for categories A, B and C was held on 23 rd February '08 and category D was held on 2 nd of March at STPI, New Facility, Taramani. The final one day event saw a healthy and tough competition amongst the finalists in all categories and the event was teeming with ideas and conversation.

Amid the tough competition that existed, the following candidates emerged as winners taking away the first and second place respectively.

Category A. Technology: “Service Oriented Architecture – Hype or Hope”

•  Ramyanisha Ramanan , Software Engineer, FIS (EFD)

•  Sharmila Gopirajan Sivakumar , Technical Analyst, Emmeskay Systems Pvt. Ltd.

Category B. Human Resources: “Innovative Practices in Human Resources”

•  Umasree Raghunath , Sr. Software Engineer, HP Global Soft Pvt. Ltd.

•  Sudha Sashtri , Program Manager, HP Global Soft Pvt. Ltd.

Category C. Quality: “Leveraging Quality Management for Project Delivery Excellence”

•  Sivagamasundari. V , Senior Team Lead, Integra Software Services

•  Kokilambal Souppourayen , Training Coordinator, Systech Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

Category D: Student: “Employable Skills - A Student Perspective”

•  K.S. Swapna , Dhanalakshmi College of Engineering 

•  Aditi Gargeya , Women's Christian College    

The winners in each category walked away with a cash prize of Rs.10000 and Rs.5000 for the first and second place respectively.

eWIT extends cordial appreciation for the support given by all the members and participants in making this event a grand success. Especially, eWIT thanks the panel of judges who had spent their invaluable time in selecting the papers for the final presentation and also for chairing the event.

And now those of you who think that you had lost an opportunity to participate or spectate the event; wait a while! eWIT Excellence Award will be hosted year on year with the emerging concepts to equip women with new challenges. Watch this space !
