Empowering Women in IT (eWIT) and Computer Society of India (CSI Division II [Software] ) are jointly conducting a one day event on the theme “Role of Stake Holders in Increasing the Share and Sustainability of Women from Tier-2, Tier-3 cities and Rural Areas in IT/ITES industry”

Honorable Minister for IT, Government of Tamil Nadu, Dr. Poongothai Aladi Aruna has kindly agreed to inaugurate the event and deliver the inaugural address. Mr. PWC Davidar, IAS, Chairman ELCOT, IT Secretary, Government of Tamil Nadu will deliver the key note address on "Attractiveness of Tier-2/3 cities and rural areas for IT/ITES industry"

The program is specially designed to address the challenges faced by companies that operate at plan to expand into Tier -2/Tier -3 cities and hire women. The program will consolidate inputs from women who work in IT/ITES companies at these locations and address their expectations. The program also intends to provide strategic inputs to keep the individuals and companies informed on various initiatives taken by the Tamil Nadu Government and STPI to help IT/ITES to succeed in their Tier-2/Tier-3 city ventures.

The program starts at 9:30 am with the Inaugural program followed by various interesting sessions such as “ Emerging Role of Women in our Society ” by Mr. Mohan Raman, an Enter Trainer, “Challenges faced by women from Tier 2/3 cities in IT/ITES industry ” by Dr. Vijailakshmi Stephen, MD of Vijailakshmi Hitech Solutions, Madurai and “ Experience with Employment of Women in Tier 2/3 cities” by R. Venugopal GM (Center Head), Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Ltd., Coimbatore.

The afternoon session will see an Interactive Session based on the theme of the program which will be moderated by Ms. Jamuna Swamy, Head/Information Security Practice, Hexaware Technologies, Chennai followed by a Panel Discussion which will address the points/concerns raised during the earlier interactive session. The panel members will speak on each of the key aspects that will enhance the Share and Sustainability of Women in Tier-2/Tier-3 citiies : Infrastructure Needs – Mr. Oscar Breganza, Executive Director, Marg Ltd.; Government Initiatives – Mr. “Americai' V. Narayanan, Ex-Honorary Advisor, RBH-Panchayati Raj, GOI; Social Transformation – Prof. Hemalatha, Women Empowerment Cell, Anna University; Educational Needs – Ms. Latha Ramesh, Past Chairman, Chennai Chapter, CSI and Industry Initiatives – Ms. Sumitra Gomatam, Sr.VP, Global Head – Testing Services, Cognizant Technology Solutions and moderated by Mr. S. Ramanathan, Regional Vice President, CSI. The day ends with valediction address by Mr. J Parthasarathy, Director of STPI

Empowering Women in IT – popularly referred to as eWIT is a voluntary, not-for-profit forum that was initiated by senior women professionals of IT/ITES industry in the year 2006 with the key objectives of “Increasing the Share and Sustainability of Women in the IT/ITES industry.” Since its inception in 2006, the forum has been very active in the city of Chennai conducting various hands-on workshops, training programs, networking events and has earned a good repute in the IT/ITES sector .

eWIT was formed with the vision: “To be the preferred forum for exchange of ideas and for forging pioneering initiatives so as to unleash the potential of women and drive their growth in the IT/ITES industry” with specific objectives of:

•  Supporting women workforce at all management levels to expand, sustain and flourish

•  Enabling women to tread the career path by equipping themselves with necessary skills

•  Facilitating women's quest for a better ‘work – life' balance in IT/ITES Sector

eWIT enjoys good corporate and individual membership. It is now planning to reach out to Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities by offering relevant workshops, undertaking research studies and offering consulting services. eWIT has plans to conduct more exciting and sustaining programs in the coming year such as mentoring facilities for women entrepreneurs, technology training, training on leadership skills and project management skills. The forum also plans to expand its reach to other cities of India and enter to working relationships with global forums dedicated to the cause of women in the information, science and technology sectors.
